Industrial Grade Caustic Soda Flakes (Sodium Hydroxide)
?
?
Industrial Grade Caustic Soda Flakes (chemical formula: NaOH, molecular weight: 40.00), commonly known as industrial caustic soda, industrial lye, or industrial flake alkali, is a basic strongly alkaline solid compound for industrial use.
?
It appears as white or off-white uniform flakes, brittle and hard, odorless, with strong corrosivity, hygroscopicity and reactivity. It is highly soluble in water with intense heat release, making it the most fundamental and widely used solid alkali raw material in chemical, papermaking, water treatment, textile and other industries.

Core Properties
?
The core properties of industrial grade caustic soda flakes are reflected in their economy, practicality and strong chemical activity:
?
- Moderate & cost-effective purity: NaOH content ≥ 98% or 99%, with allowable trace impurities: sodium carbonate (≤0.5%–1.0%), sodium chloride (≤0.05%), ferric oxide (Fe?O? ≤0.005%). These impurities have no significant effect on most industrial applications while greatly reducing production cost, providing excellent cost performance.
- Strong corrosivity: Solid or solution causes severe chemical burns on skin contact, requiring strict protective measures during operation; however, reaction products are generally safe and controllable.
- High hygroscopicity: Rapidly deliquesces when exposed to air, requiring tight sealed storage; standard industrial packaging provides sufficient protection.
- Fast solubility: The flake form offers a large specific surface area, dissolving faster than bead caustic soda, enabling quick on-site preparation of solutions at various concentrations.
- High chemical reactivity: Strong alkalinity with pH up to 14, efficiently neutralizing acids, saponifying oils and fats, hydrolyzing proteins, and precipitating metal ions to meet diverse industrial reaction requirements.
- High stability: Melting point 318°C, stable at room temperature without decomposition at high temperatures, suitable for long-term storage and transportation.

Quality Specifications
?
Industrial grade caustic soda flakes conform to national or industrial standards (such as GB/T 209, IS 252, etc.). Typical specifications:
?
- Sodium hydroxide (NaOH): ≥98% or 99% (depending on grade and customer requirements)
- Sodium carbonate (Na?CO?): ≤0.5%–1.0% (controlled for cost optimization)
- Sodium chloride (NaCl): ≤0.05%
- Ferric oxide (Fe?O?): ≤0.005%
- Heavy metals: controlled to general industrial requirements
- Appearance: white or off-white uniform flakes, free of visible impurities and black spots
- Solution: nearly clear, slight turbidity acceptable
