Core Function & Purpose:
Specialized for Rolling Conical Parts: Such as fan housings (inlets, outlets), cone tops/bottoms for storage tanks, reducer sections for towers, large funnels, conical chimneys, etc.
Solves the Problem of Cone Rolling: Ordinary symmetrical plate rolling machines can only produce cylindrical shapes (constant curvature), unable to produce cones (varying curvature). Cone rolling machines overcome this limitation through special design.
Main Structural Features:
Three Main Rolls:
Top Roll (Upper Work Roll): Usually fixed in position or vertically adjustable (mainly for pre-bending and adjusting overall curvature). It is the driving roll, powered by a hydraulic motor.
Bottom Rolls (Two Side Work Rolls): These are key to achieving conical rolling.
Inclined Arrangement: The two bottom rolls are not parallel to the top roll; instead, they can be independently and asymmetrically tilted (one raised, one lowered).
Independent Lifting Drives: Each bottom roll is controlled in its vertical position by an independent hydraulic cylinder.
Idler or Driven: Usually idler rolls (rotated by friction with the plate), though some designs may have driven bottom rolls.
Hydraulic System:
Provides powerful driving force to rotate the top roll.
Provides precise position control to the two bottom roll cylinders, enabling their independent, smooth tilting movement.
Drives the top roll's lifting (if equipped).
Drives other auxiliary actions (e.g., tipping mechanism).
Robust Frame: Withstands enormous rolling forces.
Control System: Modern machines typically use PLC or CNC control to precisely set and control parameters such as bottom roll tilt angle, top roll position, and rolling speed.
Auxiliary Devices (Optional):
Support Tables: For supporting long plates.
Tipping Device: Facilitates removal of the rolled cone.
Centering Device: Ensures accurate plate feeding position.
Working Principle:
The plate is fed between the top roll and the two bottom rolls.
Key Step - Bottom Roll Tilting: The operator or CNC program sets different heights for the two bottom rolls according to the required cone angle (difference between large and small end diameters, and cone length). This results in:
A smaller bending radius (larger curvature) at the small end of the plate (the side where the bottom roll is raised).
A larger bending radius (smaller curvature) at the large end of the plate (the side where the bottom roll is lowered).
Rolling Process: The actively rotating top roll drives the plate forward. Simultaneously, supported by the asymmetrically positioned bottom rolls, the plate experiences continuously varying bending curvature along its length, forming the conical shape.
Adjustment & Rounding: Through fine-tuning the bottom roll tilt and top roll position, multiple rolling passes are performed to gradually form the precise required cone shape, minimizing polygonal deformation (flat spots) and ovality.
